Parashas VaYeisheiv

Gam ki elech b'gei tzalmaves lo irah rah ki Ata imadi..
Also when I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil; for You are with me..

The Zohar connects this pasuk to Yosef HaTzaddik.  This refers to the period of Yosef's life when he found himself alone in Mitzrayim, capitol city of tum'ah.  He feared not from evil for the Shechina was with him.  He was able to withstand the temptation of the wife of Potifar for the Shechina haKedoshah was with him.

How did Shechina manifest Itself?

"b'osa sha'ah ba'asa diyokno shel aviv venirasa lo ba'chalon"
At that moment (of trial), the face of Yosef's father, Yaakov Avinu, appeared to Yosef in the window.

Yosef then ran for his life.

Yosef carried with him the image of his father at all times.  This is what gave him the koach to remain the same Yosef, as shepherd, as prisoner and slave and eventually as soveriegn of the then world power, Egypt,  holding the welfare of his family and of the entire world 's population in his hands.

Yosef was the Tzaddik from beginning to end, through and through.

Yosef in his wanderings, and experiences, forged the way for Am Yisrael  in all future times of Galus.
The key to his success was the fact that he was always accompanied by the Shechinah.  The Shechinah, manifested by the face of his father Yaakov.

How crucial is the father-son and parent-child relationship.  To the child, this relationship can provide him with the emotional, moral, spiritual strength to maintain himself throughout all the scenery of his life, because to the child, this relationship can represent the presence of the Shechinah, "ki Ata imadi'.

We parents have what to contemplate.
